To understand the scoring of Trickerion requires an understanding of the different category within the game that contribute to the score. Trickerion is more effective when a player consider the different categories and the way in which they contribute to one another to create a finale. The finale for Trickerion does not rely upon the trick and prophecy card scores alone, but also upon the interaction between each of these category to contribute to the final score for a game of Trickerion.
The calculator helps to mathematically calculate each of these values for you, allowing you to focus upon the meaning of each number. Tricks is the foundation of Trickerion scoring. Apprentice tricks exist as the baseline for scoring for players, but rarely offer enough point to win a game.
How Scoring Works in Trickerion
Expert tricks offer a more better return on the investment of players if players use expert tricks in conjunction with posters, and master tricks offer the best return if a player performs them repeatedly. The calculator accounts for the relative value of each of these trick categories, as the rules for Trickerion weigh them differently. Fame is a different type of scoring within Trickerion.
Fame is based upon the score recorded from the fame track for the game. The calculator assign a base value to fame, but also requires a decision from the player of whether to focus on acquiring more fame or to focus upon theater slot and posters. Posters contribute to the number of people who view your act, while the tricks performed within theater slots are scored as a multiplier for each of your tricks performed within those slot.
The setting for theater slots allows for players to select if their slots are for more valuable “premium” act, or if their slots may be used for more common “filler” act. Four-player games often undervalue the use of theater slots for tricks performed by others. Expansion modules change the value of each of the endgame element of Trickerion.
For instance, players who is selecting the rules for Dark Alley find that Specialists score better with those rules. Players who select the Dahlgaard Academy path discover that school progress and school shard are more valuable to score. Prophecy cards are more valuable within the game if the players choose the prophecy module, though many players dont have enough fulfilled prophecy card to justify this choice.
The calculator accounts for the value of each of these category, based off the module selected by the player. As such, the calculator prevents the player from attempting to use different system that do not apply to the current game being played. Preparation efficiency and linked symbols is the two factor that determine whether a score is solid or strong.
Preparation efficiency calculates how many trick a player performed in their act, as compared to the total number of tricks possible. The concept of linked symbols reward players who perform tricks that incorporate the same icon for their tricks. As such, linked symbols score better then a player who elects to create tricks with varied and unrelated symbols.
These two values are accounted for in the later portions of the calculator, as they have an impact upon the other values within the game. The reference table exist to remind the player of the meaning of each of the game element within the game. They do not account for the actual score for any given game, but do assist in the player in remembering the different category of value within Trickerion.
The score band at the bottom of the game provide context for the score that is calculated, but more importantly, indicate which category of score contribute to the total score, and which element decreased the score of the player. The calculator will not account for the skill that is required to play Trickerion, but does allow players to consider the effect that each element have upon the others. Each of the separate input within the game will allow players to see how the different element of Trickerion work together to create a total score for the game.
Understanding how the various element relate to each other is the first step toward creating a repeatable score for players.
