President is a game based off the strength of your cards. Before you can begin playing, it’s important that you understand the pecking order of cards. Understanding what cards trump what will keep arguments from happening in middle of the game.
Groups has different sets of rules for the game and you should decide those rules beforehand. One group plays by traditional ranks. Another may shift some cards and/or use jokers to mix things up. Use a ranking calculator to establish your rules. It take away any guesswork as to what current card hierarchy is.
How to Play President
That’s actualy the trick. Beat the top player. Your next card or set of cards need to be higher then theirs. What does higher mean? That vary by game. Sometimes it’s high and sometimes it’s low (three being the lowest). Other times the joker make a hand worth more. Other times ace low reverses ranking. All that variation is supported by this calculator. No stopping the game for rule discussions about what goes first. It tells you how good those cards is under the conditions you have.
Then there’s the power of revolution. Revolution turns the game on its head. Once we have a revolution, weak cards turns into strong ones. Triple threes were once considered weak, but now they are strongest card you can play. Right away you need to change your thinking. Save those high cards? Don’t do it anymore. Play what everyone else has throw out. The calculator ranks all the cards in order again at revolution and displays that for you so you can see when your hand is powerful. Now you can playing confidently.
The game titles depends on the number of players. For example with a three player game, there is a President, an Asshole, and everyone else is just neutral. With more than that, there are Vice Assholes and Vice Presidents. The title matters. Are you near last? Then go for broke. Are you near the top? Play it safe. You don’t want to be lowest title. It’s simple math but complex strategy. Know where you stand and improve your choices.
The debate over house rules happens all the time. Some tables strip twos out entirely, while others treat them as wild cards. Jokers is included as highest card by some tables. Others want them excluded to speed up the pace of the game. These preferences can be set within the calculator. No game of President are the same. President is a local custom. How you may of played it one way with one group doesn’t mean that’s how you’ll play it another. So the tool is used as an unbiased ref.
Who knows what the rules will be until we deal? It doesn’t matter what cards you have; their values aren’t a secret, only their locations are. Nobody know the ranks of anyone else’s hand. The cards they play are all you’re aware of. This means it becomes a deduction puzzle. If someone opens up with high cards, then how do you think he intends to use them? Is he showing strength? Or is he trying to offload a burden? Read his mind wrong and you’ll pay for it. Knowing the ranks is important as it allows you to concentrate more on the psychology of it.
And finally, it’s the best game when you’re out of cards. Game rules are decided by the President. That means the winner get to dictate the next game’s rules. Revenge? The Asshole may alter the deck. These alterations is tracked by the calculator. Set your variant and see what ranks you get. Same goal, different card order.
