💡 Action Economy Rule: The number of monsters matters as much as their CR. Three CR 3 monsters vs. a party of 4 level-5 characters is significantly harder than one CR 9 monster due to action economy—more attacks, more conditions, more pressure per round. Always apply the monster count multiplier before assessing difficulty.
💡 Adventuring Day Budget: The 2024 PHB recommends 6–8 medium-to-hard encounters per adventuring day, or 2–3 hard/deadly encounters with rests. A party of 4 at level 5 has ~14,000 XP of daily budget. Spreading encounters tests attrition properly — single deadly fights ignore resource depletion strategy.
