    💡 Downtime Tips
    💰 Accumulate Capital Before Building
The Pathfinder downtime system requires you to spend capital equal to the full cost of a room or project. Spend several days earning income or generating labor capital before attempting large construction projects. Rushing without capital wastes downtime days.
    🏗 Combine Crafting with Building
Magic item crafting uses downtime days independently from building. If your character has the Craft Wondrous Item feat, you can dedicate half your downtime to building rooms and the other half to crafting — maximizing both wealth generation and infrastructure simultaneously.

Pathfinder downtime is that time between adventures, when the players step back before the next chapter starts. During downtime, you can sum up the important events of a whole day with just one roll. That helps the game move more quickly when the group is not fighting monsters or exploring dungeons.

The system of downtime aims to give more power and decision making to the players about tasks outside the adventures. These rules assume that the reader is a player that decides what his character does during downtime. Usually, players should compete for the attention of the GM to explain his plans and discuss how much time that will take.

What You Can Do During Downtime

With these rules, what you can do during a day of downtime is clearly described, which allows everyone to quickly sort out his plans.

When a day of downtime starts every player declares what his character tries to accomplish. Then, tasks of characters can be settled one at a time, or characters can group if they are working on a single project. The downtime mode is played day after day, instead of minute after minute or scene after scene.

Usually, this mode happens when the characters are safe in a settlement, maybe studying or resting after adventures.

Buying gear is part of downtime, just like raising the level of a character or healing wounds. Some activities are general, for instance resting to heal more quickly or retraining skills and choosing new class features. Even so, most downtime activities sit under skills and require skill checks.

Retraining is maybe the most important use of downtime. Unless the group has very careful players that plan his character five or ten levels forward, retraining will be inevitable, because some builds truly require that in the middle of the progression.

Creation of items is another important part. If the days of creation are interrupted, the character can return to finish the work later, continuing where he left off. If you succeed critically, every additional day spent reduces the amount of materials needed to complete the item.

The rules of downtime do not allow doing other activities during creation, and that requires for days.

You can use a day of downtime to learn a secret about someone, which requires a check of Diplomacy or Influence. Players also can help guide the campaign by setting long-term goals that require several periods of downtime to complete. If you play an adventure with slow progress, you receive half of the rewards of standard pace, including downtime days.

If no downtime activity was done in the current settlement, the Upkeep phase is skipped andyou go directly to the Activity phase.
