Mahjong is a game for four players that originates from China. Players try to get points by means of their tiles in the hand. Later they also pay each other according to the differences in points and because someone won mahjong to win the hand.

How to Score in Hong Kong and Singapore Mahjong
Rarer times give bigger points.
Are several ways to play. They do not only differ between 13- and 16-tile mahjong. Between variants belong Chinese mahjong, riichi mahjong, American mahjong and Hong Kong mahjong.
In Hong Kong mahjong you use rules typical for that city and parts of Guangdong. What commonly calls a point or double, you call faan. That originates from the Cantonese word 番.
In Singapore mahjong requires four extra animal tiles. You can play it, if the mahjong set has four spares. This style likes more to the classical than SBR or HLR.
There are no basic points, and the doubles form a short list. For declare a win player requires at least one double in his hand. It can come from an animal tile either from own flower.
Patterns for points depend on a nice or brilliant hand. Occasionally matters the elegance of whole hand, for instance Full Flush or All Simples. Those patterns, or yaku, value the hand.
A hand with cleverly mixed yaku is worth much more than simple mahjong. For instance, if Player A reached 20 points and Player B 10, then B will pay to A 10 points. If winner succeeded by means of a discard, he receives the score of the discarder plus 8 basic points from each player.
If by means of self-draw, he receives the score plus 8 points of all players.
Particular tiles value also. Flowers and seasons give each 4 points. Triplets can reach from 2 until 8 points.
That depends on that, whether you formed them by means of getting a discard or from the wall. It depends also on type: simple tiles as suits between 2 and 8, or ones, nines and winds. Any combination from four triplets and a pair can be a winning hand, if it reaches at least 8 points.
