The game of Bocce Ball is fairly easy. To play, you need nine balls together with something to measure distance. Eight of them are the bigger ones, called bocce-balls, and the ninth is a little ball known as the pallino or target ball.
The main task is to roll your bocce-balls as near the pallino so that they beat the scores of the opponents. Every team owns four balls of one color that they throw during every round.
#How long does a game of Bocce Ball last? It varies based on the target score, that changes based on place and mode of game. Usually the score moves between 7 and 13 points.
Some games end at 11 points, but a team must also win by two points. Others reach even 16 points, where the first team that raeches this number wins. A normal match is 12 points.
When a team reaches the set score, the game ends.
Also time affects the game. After 40 minutes no new game will start. Even so, if a game already goes on after that limit, it will last until the finish, even if it needs more time.
Teams and players take turns throwing, until all eight balls are out. Usually the team whose balls are most far from the pallino throws next. Only those balls that clearly beat all of the opponents’ closeness too the pallino give points.
In one round only one team wins. So, if two balls of the same team are closer to the pallino than all of the others, that counts as two points for that round. All distances measure from the center of the pallino to the edge of the bocce-ball.
When a round ends, the winning team throws the pallino to start the next one. It also starts with the first bocce-ball. Rounds happen switching sides of the court.
Courts have various sizes and surfaces. Traditional ones are from natural ground or asphalt, around 90 feet long and 8 to 13 feet wide. Some courts measure 10 by 76 feet on sand or tall grass.
Backyard courts commonly are 60 feet long and 12 feet wide. An official court measures almost 13 by 91 feet. Typical surfaces include clay, sand, fine stone or even crushed bark.
Red and green are the common colors forteam balls.
In Italy Bocce Ball is loved among all kinds of folks. It seems like a great activity for a cool afternoon. The game itself needs skill, tactics and a bit of chance.
