Spell slot calculator is a practical aid for players of tabletop role-playing games, for instance Dungeons & Dragons in the 5th edition. It mainly helps to estimate how many spell slot are available to a character for every level of magic. Those spell slot form the main resource, that magicians use to cast spells, so tracking them is important.
Such calculators are useful especially while multiclassing. Magicians with several classes need a special method for combining levels from different classes. The way it works is quite detailed.
Full value receives levels from bard, cleric, druid, wizard and sorcerer. To them you add half of the levels from paladin and ranger, rounded down. Also, a third of levels from fighter or rogue affects the whole, but only if the character has the Eldritch Knight or Arcane Trickster as main trait.
One checks that amount in the table for multiclass magicians, and there you find the available spell slot.
Levels of warlock work differently. For instance, a character with 6 levels in paladin and 2 in warlock receives spell slot of a 6th level paladin plus those of a 2nd level warlock, without blending. The pact magic of warlock does not feed into the usual multiclass calculation.
One does not consider warlock levels for the total caster level.
Some of those calculators also care about spell tracking and can follow things like known spells, prepared spells and the highest spell level from every class. There are versions that care about the freely used spells, that Eldritch Knights and Arcane Tricksters can learn.
There is a spell point calculator, that is a bit different from the prior. It follows spell points instead of spell slot, because those points offer another way to cast spells in the 5th edition.
To use a spell slot calculator, go too the website or platform that hosts it. Then, enter details about the character, like level, class and caster skill. Correct input of data matters, and it is good to double check the results according to the rules from the rulebook.
One thing to keep in mind is how one rounds levels of ranger. The calculator applies multiclass rules from the Player’s Manual and treats rangers as half casters, similar to paladins and rangers. Even so some versions round ranger levels down, although they should go upward.
Because of that, three levels in ranger should give two caster levels, notonly one.
Some updated versions of the calculator support both the original rules of the 5th edition and the update from 2024, which helps players estimate spell slot independently of the used version.
